It's not surprising that we humans like neat and tidy homes. Most animals (one exception is the Andean Zorro) like to keep the places they live clean. But, for some of us, the task of cleaning our houses may not come so easily.
It's not that most people don't know how to house clean. Rather, the number one question that people have is often "Where do I start?" At times, cleaning a house can appear to be overwhelming. It can sometimes make you want to stop before you even start.

To prevent this feeling of overwhelm, you need to be organized. You need to make a plan. Before you get out the rags other essential cleaning supplies, you need to make sure that everything is in its place. Another word for this is "decluttering." By tidying up first, you can avoid stopping the vacuum cleaner to pick toys off of the floor; or putting the furniture polish down to remove old magazines from the coffee table. Starting and stopping is quite trying. Therefore it is in your best interest to remove the clutter first.
The next step is to organize the cleaning products that you will use. You may want to get an apron with large pockets or a plastic bin with dividers to carry your cleaning products from place to place and room to room. Some supplies that you will want to include in your bin are window cleaner, furniture polish, rags, disinfectant spray, and carpet cleaner and room deodorizer. You need to use the right cleaning supplies for each job that you are going to tackle. Otherwise, you may end up spending more time than needed cleaning or even re-cleaning parts of your house.
You may also find it easier to carry around a garbage bag around your house with you instead of making repeat trips to and from the garbage can. Also, use the right cleaning supplies that will get the job done.
Once you have removed the clutter from a given room, then begin at the top of the room and make your way towards the floor. Remove spider webs from the corners; and for all bookcases that you have, dust the highest shelves first. This way, the dust will drop down, eventually landing on the floor where you will vacuum it. If you are right-handed, then work your way around the room clockwise. If you are left-handed, then move counter-clockwise around the room.
Another house cleaning tip is to clean one room at a time. Once you complete one room, you will feel a sense of accomplishment, which will then give you motivation to continue to the next room.
Remember that a clean house is more than just pleasant to look at. It is also an outward sign by which people often judge you. Think about it: when you walk into someone else's house, don't you almost immediately notice how clean the house is? Additionally, dirt can harbor dust mites and bacteria, which can have a deleterious effect on your family's health.
